Flyball is a fun, fast, team sport for dogs . It's noisy and very exciting, so if you like the quiet life this may not be the sport for you!
Any kind of dog can do flyball as long as they are fit and healthy, all of the dogs in our team are family pets who enjoy flyball as a hobby.
Flyball is a relay race with up to 6 dogs on a team, 4 dogs from the team compete against 4 dogs from an opposing team in each heat of the race.
The course consists of a starting line, 4 jumps spaced 10 feet apart and a flyball box set 15 feet from the last jump. The jump height is dependent on the height of the dogs in the team -- 4" below the shoulder height of the shortest dog. 7" is the minimum height and 14" is the maximum height.
The handler of the start dog in each team aims to have their dog reaching the start line just as the start lights go green, the dogs go over the 4 jumps and step on a spring loaded box that shoots out a tennis ball. The dog catches the tennis ball and then runs back over the jumps, as the dog crosses the starting line the next dog goes.
The first team to have all 4 dogs run without errors wins the heat. Races are usually run on a best of 5 heats basis.
Each time that the dogs successfully complete a heat of the race they earn points which accumulate to gain them titles and awards. If you think that your dog would enjoy flyball then please get in touch.
