British Flyball Association Summer Championships:
The Championships were held on 14-16 August with 32 Divisions running over the 3 days. Our first team to run were the Hotshots Hit'n'Run on Friday in Division 28. They were seeded bottom of the division with a time of 23.26 seconds. They went out and ran like stars winning all of their 5 races and only losing 3 legs all day. They ran a best time of 22.81 seconds which was a new personal best for this line up of dogs. Never having won a division at the championships before we weren't prepared for the fact that there would be a photograph so hadn't taken the dogs to presentations!
Saturday arrived and it was the turn of the Hotshots and Hyperdogs teams. Hyperdogs were on first in division 19, they were seeded second from bottom with a time of 20.73. They won the first 3 races but then lost the fourth race to the Warwickshire Whirlwinds. The final race against the Buccaroos arrived and the outcome of this would be the difference between first and second place for us. The team held their nerve brilliantly and won the race, we just couldn't believe that we had won another division at the Championships. They ran a best time of 20.37 which was a personal best for these dogs.
Hotshots were in Division 11, seeded top of the division with a time of 19.37 seconds, it was a seven team division meaning there were 6 races. They won the first 3 races although it was very hard work with two of the races going to 5 legs. The first race of the afternoon against the Kiverton Katapults again went to 5 legs, on the 5th leg they beat us by a whisker. We won the next race 3-0. Then it was the final race against Molten Magic, we knew that we would come 3rd whether we won or lost this race as there would be 3 teams tied on 5 wins if we won, Kiverton had beaten us and Molten Magic had done a much faster time, we still went out and tried our best but they were that bit faster. Hotshots did a best time of 19.26 seconds which again was a personal best for these dogs.
So we didn't manage the Hat trick but there is no way we could be unhappy with two firsts and a third and all three teams running personal best times. The dogs ran brilliantly over the weekend and all of the team members got stuck in doing all of the important jobs like ball collecting, being on the line and giving support. We also had a lot of fun over the weekend at the entertainment nights, On Saturday night the team captain, John and his wife Stephanie won most sophisticated Flyball couple..so actually we did manage a hat trick!! We are already looking forward to next year :)
